The history of Berguedà has a mining venture that everyone must know, in order to understand its history, its territory and the evolution of the energies of the past into the present and the future. If you come to El Jou Nature, you are in fact stepping an open pit mine, did you know it? You'll find out everything you need to know about mining at the Cercs Mines Museum, which is less than 5 minutes' drive from El Jou Nature.
The museum presents with objects, audiovisual and personal experiences of the neighboring miners of the Alt Berguedà, to explain in a monographic way the coal mining and the relation and impact of the mines with the geological, landscape, economic and human of the Berguedà.
In the Museum of Mines of Cercs you will get to know in depth all that is involved in the exploitation of coal and its use as fuel. Also how the miners lived 50 years ago, both in their hard work and when they left, since most of them lived in the same colony of Sant Corneli, in Cercs, and they staged such important events as the Revolt of 1932 figs or the 1977 closure.
Visitors will be part of the mining history when you enter the mine in wagons that will appeal to adults and especially children, and will take you inside the Sant Romà gallery, opened in 1860 and active until 1991, and then you will visit a model house where the miners lived.
The visit lasts about an hour and a half and is key to discover the most important mining center of Catalonia.
